What is Athens and why should I sign up for an account?

Athens is the access management system currently used to control access to some of our online resources. These resources are only available to current staff and students of Glasgow School of Art, and your Athens account grants you access to several electronic resources that otherwise you would not be able to access.

What are the benefits of Athens?

* Athens grants you access to a large collection of online resources, that otherwise you would not have access to.
* It enables you to retrieve authoritative information from databases and electronic journals. This information is generally of better quality and more authoritative than that found on the Internet, and you can have greater confidence in using it in your assignments.
* Most information in our online resources is not freely available on the Web.
* Athens grants you remote access to most of our electronic resources, meaning that you can access quality electronic information at any time from home, without even having to come into the Library.
* Athens provides you with a single username and password for multiple resources.

How do I get an Athens account?

I've got an account, but can't log in. Why?

Check that you are entering your username and password correctly. Remember that Athens logins are case sensitive, so check that the caps lock key is not active. Athens adds the term 'gsa' to the beginning of all usernames, so check that you are prefixing your username with this. If you are still experiencing log in problems, view our troubleshooting pages, or contact your Athens Administratior.

I can't remember my Athens login details. What should I do?

Your Athens Administrator athens@gsa.ac.uk will be able to retrieve your username, and reset your password if you have forgotten it.

Can I change my Athens password?

Yes. Simply log in to My Athens and click on the 'Change Password' tab. You should ensure that you are protecting your account against unauthorised use.

How do I access Athens resources?

You can log in to our electronic resources individually, by using our Browse function, clicking on the resource in question, and then accessing the Athens log in page. Alternatively, you can also log in to My Athens and retrieve a list of all the resources you can access with your Athens account. Because you have already logged into Athens, you will be able to click directly through to many of these resources, though some will require a second Athens log in. Watch our demo movie to get started.
