The Library currently supports several cohorts of students on the BA Ceramics part-time distance learning course at Glasgow School of Art. We aim to provide you with a tailored Library service to ensure that you are not disadvantaged by your physical distance from the School.
We provide a postal loan service to all distance learners, supplying books and photocopied articles by post, subject to copyright limits. Simply email one of our Academic Liaison Librarians with details, and we will despatch your items to you.
We do not charge our distance learners fines for overdue books, but instead ask that you post the items back to us when you have finished with them, or renew them online.
You can renew your items online up to a maximum of 2 times simply by logging in to the Library Catalogue with your library borrower number. If you have any difficulty using this facility, contact the Academic Liaison Librarians.
Our Academic Liaison Librarians can provide expert advice on our collections and on print and electronic resources, and are jointly responsible for providing the day-to-day Library service to Ceramics distance learners. You can also contact the Subject Librarians about accessing resources elsewhere, both virtually or in other libraries, or request book purchases if we do not have what you are looking for.
Distance learning students have access to a wide range of online resources such as bibliographic databases and image banks, most of which can be searched from home over the Internet.
The GSA Virtual Learning Environment enables you to access courses created and maintained by your course tutors and by GSA support departments. The VLE is accessible both on and off-campus. Simply log in using your usual GSA network login.
Most distance learners will receive Library inductions and refresher sessions from the Academic Liaison Librarians during their residentials. You can also access our dedicated Online Induction at any time during your studies. This induction will introduce you to some of the services and resources relevant to your discipline.
To access the Online Induction, simply click here.
As a distance learning undergraduate at the Glasgow School of Art, you are eligible to join the SCONUL Access scheme to gain borrowing rights at up to 150 participating Higher Education libraries in the UK. The scheme is ideal for accessing libraries closer to your home or workplace. For further details of this and other access schemes available to distance learners, see our Other Libraries section.
The Library maintains 2 subject blogs: one for Fine Art and Design, and one for Architecture. The art and design blog provides regular news and updates on print and electronic resources, together with a host of other content including details of new books added to Library stock.
Read our subject guide to ceramics for print and online resources of relevance to your studies.
Student Support Services provide a variety of advice on different aspects of student life. They offer counselling, student welfare, Enlgish language support and learning support & development. All of these services are provided for free to all GSA students. More information about these services can be accessed on the VLE.
