Use this page to find out how we can support you as a student with dyslexia at GSA.
The Library and Computer Centre offer a number of assistive technologies and software to help you get the most from our service and resources.
If dyslexia means you have particular individual requirements that you would like to discuss with us, please contact the Library Administrator.
Any information you give us concerning your dyslexia is treated in the strictest confidence. We will not pass on this information to anyone else, unless you grant us permission to share it with other support departments such as Student Services.
We stock a number of books on dyslexia. Full details can be found in the Library Catalogue. The following shelfmarks will help you locate areas of interest on the library shelves.
305.3 and 305.4 Autism and Aspergers
371.91 Education and disability
616.85 Dyslexia
Each of our books is given a number on its spine, and it is this number that is shown in the Library Catalogue. Simply make a note of the number in order to find it on the Library shelves. All books run in numerical order round the library, from 0 to 999.
All spine labels are printed in black on yellow to make them easier for you to read. We also try to keep our numbers much shorter than you would find in other libraries - this is to make it easier for you when you are trying to find numbers of the shelves.
Finding books on the library shelves can be a little confusing until you get used to the arrangement of the Library. Don't worry though - remember that you can ask for help at the Service Desk if you are having trouble finding something on the shelves.
If you find black on yellow easier to read, cream yellow paper is available from the Library Service Desk and can be loaded into the photocopiers.
Our Academic Liaison Librarians can provide friendly expert advice on our collections and on print and electronic resources in your discipline.
The Academic Liaison Librarians' office is located on the upper level of the Main Library. You can usually pop in to see them during normal working hours. Alternatively, use the contact details below.
Student Support Services provide a variety of advice on different aspects of student life. They offer counselling, student welfare, Enlgish language support and learning support & development. All of these services are provided for free to all GSA students. More information about these services can be accessed on the VLE.
